Headquarters: San Francisco, CA
Operation Dates: 1990 - 1996
Featured Remixers: Jim Hopkins, Mike Wertheim
Remix Genres: Alternative, Techno, Experimental, Progressive House
Configuration: Vinyl Double Discs and Compilation CDs
Service Details: Twitch, as a remix service paralleled Razormaid in many ways. It offered remixes of less mainstream artists/songs and promoted more unknown artists. The music selection was definately more alternatively oriented than most services at the time. Using colored swirl vinyl in their pressings and utilizing colorful/bizarre artwork in their packaging, Twitch releases were as graphically strange and wonderful as the music they remixed. Twitch also branched out into a record label - "Twitch Recordings" to feature unsigned alterna-dance artists.

Twitch Remix Service was formed by Mike Wertheim
(Investor/remixer), Randall Erkelens (Cover Art/Graphic Designer)
and Jim Hopkins (Remixer..who previously did remixes for Hot
Tracks, Rhythm Stick, Disconet and Metropolis Remix Services) The
three formed Twitch Remix Service as an alternative to all of the
other commercial remix services that were producing at the time.
They wanted to focus more on the underground tracks that were
coming out in the early rave scene by overseas artists as well as
upcoming local San Francisco artists. (the other remix services
were focusing on remixing already established artists) Their
releases stood out among the other remix services at that time due
to their eye catching full cover art on their record jackets and
cd covers (other services would use a stock jacket for their
releases). Twitch Remix Service was formed in 1991 and continued
on through to 1995. In 1995, Jim Hopkins took the company over
and discontinued the remix service releases. This was due to the
number of "bootleg" remix services who were releasing material
from labels without their consent. It got to a point where labels
did not want to deal with remix services anymore and it became
difficult to obtain clearances to release tracks on the remix
service. Jim continues to run Twitch to this day as a multimedia
company. From 1995 to present, Jim has been releasing his own 12"
singles, DJ mix CDs, beat matched music video mixes, and visual
DVDs. Twitch is now focusing on DVD releases of Jim Hopkins
projects and serving up his videos on youtube.com Check out Twitch Productions @ http://www.twitchrecordings.com
